When a lot of people cut the cord, they start by looking for services that can replace cable. They look for live streaming services like Sling TV or Hulu with Live TV. These services give you access to top networks, local channels, and other channels at a discount when compared to cable pricing. Once you’ve nailed down your live streaming option, you might find that you’re still looking for more content. If you’re a binge-watcher, you might want to add some on-demand streaming options to your lineup. One of those options is Apple TV+ and in this full review I will share all of the details of this affordable service.
You might be asking yourself why I’m reviewing Apple TV+ on a sports site. It’s true, Apple TV+ doesn’t offer a lot of sports content, though that could change in the future. Right now you can watch Friday Night Baseball, a new baseball themed news and highlights show, and MLS matches will be airing in the future. So, whether you’re looking to find a new show to binge-watch or you want some more sports in your life, Apple TV+ may be able to help!
All the info you need on Apple TV+ is right here!
You won’t be able to replace cable with Apple TV+. That said, you won’t find another ad-free service offering this level of content at this price. Apple TV+ is only $7 per month. What is Apple TV+?
Apple TV+ is an on-demand streaming service that is offered by Apple. It’s the kind of thing you’d think Apple would offer, minus the high price! Apple TV+ offers all original, on-demand content. You’ll get movies and TV shows from many of the top names in Hollywood. You can stream on a variety of devices, Apple related and others, and you’ll be able to cancel whenever you want. Oh, and best of all, you get a free 7-day trial. After that, it’s just $7 per month. And there’s no ads!
In short, if you’re looking for something to watch that you can’t find anywhere else, Apple TV+ might be the service that you’ve been searching to find.
What Does Apple TV+ Offer Sports Fans?
Until recently, Apple TV+ had nothing to offer sports fans when it came to live sports. However, they have the rights to stream limited MLB games each week and recently made a deal to broadcast some MLS matches, as well.
When it comes to MLB, you’ll receive Friday Night Baseball. This includes two back-to-back games on Friday night with pre- and post-game shows that are produced by Apple. You’ll also be able to watch the new MLB Big Inning, which is a baseball themed show offering highlights and other baseball news.
What Devices Work with Apple TV+?
As you might have guessed, you can stream Apple TV+ content on all Apple devices. Beyond Apple, you’ve got plenty of other options that will allow you to stream Apple TV+. Here’s some additional options:
- Amazon Fire TV Devices
- Select Smart TVs
- Mobile devices
What Features are Available with Apple TV+?
All streaming services offer something extra that makes them stand out from the other services. This usually helps to grow viewership because everyone is looking for the best services with the most features. Here’s what Apple TV+ offers:
All New Content
Apple TV+ offers 100% original and exclusive content. Sure, not all of the shows available in the lineup are winners, but a lot of them are. Apple TV+ is the only place you’ll find Ted Lasso, The Morning Show, Servant, See, Foundation, Snoopy in Space, Oprah’s Book Club, and many other popular and star-studded programs!
Traditional commercials don’t exist on Apple TV+. You may see an Apple TV+ trailer from time to time, but once a show begins you won’t find any ads interrupting things. This is one of the only streaming service offering packages at this price that does not include ads!
Some Sports Content
Apple TV+ is an on-demand streaming service, so sports haven’t been a thing before now. Recently, Apple TV+ started offering Friday Night Baseball. This gives you access to two MLB games a week on Friday night. The games air one after the other and include pre- and post-game shows by Apple. They also air a new live baseball show, MLB Big Inning. Apple TV also has the license to air MLS, so look out for that in the future!
How Does Apple TV+ Work?
Like all Apple products, Apple TV+ was made and optimized to be used on Apple products. And while Apple TV+ looks absolutely beautiful streaming from an iPad, iPhone, Mac, or Apple TV, you’ve got other options. Apple TV+ is a streaming service, so you’ll need a compatible device (Roku, Chromecast, AirPlay, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, etc), and an internet connection to make things work.
You’ll choose the Apple TV app, connect to your account, and then you can make your selection to watch one of the available shows or movies. If you’re sharing your account in your family, you’ll have the ability to make up to 6 profiles per account. You can also download movies and shows to watch them offline. This ensures that you can watch shows from anywhere, at any time.
Signing Up for Apple TV+
Whether you choose to sign up from the Apple website or the Apple TV app, the process is easier than you can imagine.
- Visit the Apple website
- Click TV & Home
- Click the Apple TV+ button
- Choose Try it Free
- Add any necessary information
- Confirm your details
- Start your free trial!
Apple TV+ will start you off with a free 7-day trial and when that’s over, you’ll begin paying $7 per month until you cancel. A similar process happens through the Apple TV app. You’ll click “Try it Free,” add your details, and confirm. You can begin watching as soon as your trial begins and your account has been made!
Using Apple TV+
Apple has made a business on making tech products simple enough for anyone to use. Apple TV+ isn’t any different. If you’re watching on an Apple TV, you’ll be set. It’s as simple as clicking the Apple TV app (which is preloaded) and choosing what you want to watch. No matter what device you use, you’ll need the Apple TV app. The benefit to this is that if you’ve ever purchased any movies or TV shows through your iPhone or iPad, they will be available on your Apple TV app, too. So, you’ll be able to mix and match and watch both your content that you’ve purchased, and the original content added by Apple TV+. Once you find something you want to watch, just select the show and it will begin immediately!
How Much does Apple TV+ Cost?
Apple TV+ is available for just $7 a month. It’s doubtful that you’ll find an on-demand streaming service available at such a low price these days. Like most streaming services, Apple TV+ avoids contracts. This allows you to come and go as you please and to cancel on your terms.
Apple TV+ Pros & Cons
You’ve learned a lot about Apple TV+ so far, so now it’s time for a little break down. As someone who has used the service since the beginning, here are some pros and cons to consider about Apple TV+:
Pro: All Original Content
Apple TV+ is unlike any other streaming service because all of the content you receive is exclusive and original to the service. You won’t find any classic shows or old cop dramas. Instead, you’ll find award winning shows filled with the top names in entertainment. Honestly, it’s exactly what you’d expect from Apple.
Pro: The Price is Right
Apple TV+ is only $7 per month. Sure, you won’t be able to replace cable outright with this service, but for a slate of over 100+ original shows and movies, it’s worth the cost. Add in the fact that you can cancel any time and the deal becomes better. You can watch your favorite shows and if there’s nothing else you want to watch, just cancel until the new seasons come out and you’re good to go!
Pro: No Ads!
There are a couple of other $7/month streaming services out there, but Apple TV+ is the only one that offers the service without ads. You will occasionally see an ad before a show that’s for an Apple TV+ movie or show, but otherwise, traditional ads are not included.
Con: Limited Library
As amazing as it is that Apple TV+ only provides you with content that you can’t find anywhere else, it’s also limiting for the same reason. While services like Netflix have thousands of shows and an endless number of things to watch, Apple TV+ has 100+ shows. It’s growing but offers a significantly smaller library than other streaming services. Of course, it’s cheaper, so this won’t be a problem for most viewers.
Con: You Don’t Know What You’re Going to Get
Signing up for HBO Max is easy because you know Game of Thrones and Friends. Netflix has their lineup of classic shows and so does Amazon Prime. All the content on Apple TV+ is newer to viewers, so you may not know how much of it you’re going to like. If you’re someone looking to binge-watch classics, this may not work for you. Apple TV+ has a lot of great shows, but if you want something familiar you won’t find it here.
What is Apple TV+?
Apple TV+ is a one-of-a-kind on-demand streaming service. Rather than culling from studio archives, Apple TV+ is a service that offers all originals. Not only that, of the 100+ shows and movies currently offered, there’s several award winners and top names in Hollywood. Despite the name, you can stream Apple TV+ on many popular streaming devices, even your computer or your Amazon Fire Stick. Prices are cheap and you can cancel anytime.
How much does Apple TV+ cost?
Apple TV+ offers one of the best deals in streaming. You can get everything the service has to offer for just $7 per month. This price allows you to stream on six devices at one time.
Does Apple TV+ offer a free trial?
Apple TV+ offers new subscribers a free one-week trial. If you’re not satisfied, you can cancel prior to the end of the trial to avoid being charged.
What devices can you use with Apple TV+?
Other than on Apple TVs, iPhones, and iPads, you can watch Apple TV+ on Amazon Fire TV and Stick, Android TV, Chromecast, Roku, computers, and select smart TVs.
Is Apple TV+ Worth It?
That’s going to depend on what you want in a streaming service. If you want a live streaming cable replacement, Apple TV+ won’t be for you. If you’re looking for award-winning exclusive TV shows and movies with a small amount of sports coverage, then Apple TV+ is worth looking into. This isn’t something that allows you to replace cable, but it’s a great supplement to your streaming library if you’re looking for something new to watch.
