Netherlands Full Team Squad For FIFA World Cup 2022

After missing out on the 2016 European Championship and 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Netherlands made their comeback to the mega stage at the Euro 2020. However, despite having brilliant group stage performances, they couldn’t go past the Czech Republic barrier in the round of 16. Thus now the Dutch men will be keen to break the shackles in the Qatar World Cup. Louis Van Gaal does have a pretty good squad in his hands. Maarten Stekelenburg, the old customer who was the first choice keeper at the Euro 2020, announced his retirement from the national team right after the Euro. Thus, now the first choice GK for the side will be either Justin Bijlow or Jasper Cillessen. The former Barca stopper who is currently at Valencia, is a more experienced option. He featured in the 2014 FIFA WC and helped the side reach the semifinal stage. However, he missed the Euro 2020 being tested positive to Covid-19. But we back him to be the first choice GK in the upcoming mega event. Feyenoord’s Bijlow will also be a top option for the Dutch boss while Tim Krul who is a shoot-out specialist is expected to be the 3rd choice goalie.

Netherlands does have very very strong center back options. The existence of experience and in form Virgil Van Djik along with Stefan de Vrij and Matthijs de Ligt, makes the position rock solid. Liverpool’s first choice center half and former Ballon d’Or contender VVD will definitely be the most reliable option. In the matches where the Dutch boss will go with 3 CBs, we expect Inter Milan’s De Vrij to make a partnership with VVD. In fact, De Ligt and De Vrij are expected to be each other’s replacements. However, if the Dutch head coach tends to go with a 3 man CB line, he can play all 3 of them together. According to our experts, Denzel Dumfries should be the first choice right back with Jurrien Timber to be his alternative. Ajax Amsterdam left back Daley Blind is the country’s number one for that spot should keep Van Aanholt on the bench.

In the middle, Frenkie De Jong and Georginio should be the regular starters. And we think Davy Klaassen should be their 3rd partner at the heart of the field. Atalanta man Marten de Roon will also be a crucial player for the midfield and Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch should also get his chances.

Up front, Memphis Depay will be the most vital player. If he remains in form, that will be the most pleasing fact for the Orange armies. Considering the form, we also believe that Steven Berghuis should be a regular starter as well. However, the 3rd attacking option might be grabbed by a number of players and LVG may rotate his options throughout the campaign. Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen will be the ones who do have the most chances to make it into the playing XI. Luuk De Jong, who recently made a loan move to FC Barcelona, can prove to be a good substitute option.
